Theatre Gargantua is developing ArtIface (working title)
The tipping point is long gone.
It darted past us imperceptibly.
The ramifications are moving away from us in every direction at the speed of light.
Artifice is a project exploring the implications of AI on human life – The Wild West of technology where human imaginations are incapable of keeping pace with the algorithmic innovations. It asks questions about what happens to truth when humans are not the smartest person in the room.
The project is at the very beginning of its creative development with 2 phases of work this year. A spring workshop May 11-29 contracted under workshops and reading of the ITA. An 8 week contract including development and performances begins September 21 to November 15 this fall and contracted under ITA CAT F.
The company is seeking performers who have an interest in creating original contemporary work, are very strong actors, can sing, and can move well. You must also play an instrument and play it well. We are open to a variety of instruments but you should be an intermediate to advanced player. Theatre Gargantua develops work in an ensemble method, with all voices collaborating and participating. We value and desire a rich diversity of experiences and cultures.
In a cover letter please indicate what instrument(s) you play and your level of proficiency. Please also indicate your vocal range if not included on your resume.
The company will be holding auditions on March 24 and 25 with callbacks on the 27th. Please submit as soon as possible. The deadline for applications is March 19th
Please send submissions with subject line Auditions to [jacquie AT theatregargantua DOT ca]
Founded in 1992, Gargantua’s productions meld acrobatic-like physicality, flexible sets, original vocal work and the innovative use of media. The ensemble devises all-original works which are built from the ground up with the ensemble of artists (typically 4-6 performers), and a talented team of designers.
Theatre Gargantua’s auditions are normally held annually for each iteration of our Cycles of Work.
Performers interested in working with the company, should be able to move well and have a strong interest in creating original theatre. Please note the auditions are physically demanding. Our auditions are held in small, ensemble-like workshops that reflect our collaborative creation process.
We are happy to receive submissions from artists we have seen previously. Theatre Gargantua believes in equal opportunities and strongly encourages submissions from all performers regardless of gender, age, ethnicity and sexuality.
Rehearsals and performances take place October – December in Toronto.
Submissions:
Please send a cover letter and headshot to jacquie@theatregargantua.ca, and indicate if you play an instrument and your vocal range. Only successful applicants will be contacted about auditions. We thank all those who apply in advance.
