Theatre Gargantua’s Artistic Internship Program provides an opportunity for emerging artists to expand their skills and experience through observing and participating in our creative cycle.

Administrative/Production:
Theatre Gargantua is hiring three summer positions under the Canada Summer Jobs program. Job descriptions for our Associate Producer, Production Assistant, and Marketing Associate positions are below. Each position is a sixteen week contract from May 11-August 28 at a weekly rate of $700 for 35 hours/week. These positions will be hybrid with time at our office at 651 Dufferin Street and some flexibility for work-from-home.
These positions are funded through the Government of Canada’s Canada Summer Jobs program and therefore applicants must:
● be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
● be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred
● have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada

Associate Producer
The Associate Producer will gain a wide variety of job skills that are in high demand in the creative sector. This position will require on-site work in our offices in Toronto. From May 11 to Aug 28, the candidate will work closely with the Artistic Director and General Manager and will be responsible for assisting with all production elements in the preparations necessary building to our fall rehearsal schedule and mid-cycle performance of the first phase of ArtIface, a new work exploring artificial intelligence and its impacts on Canadian society.
Overall, the candidate will assist with tasks directly related to the production elements of a professional theatre company, including:
• Assist across all areas of producing live theatre (e.g. scheduling rehearsals, event organization, communications with artists and the production team, including designers and Production Manager and Stage manager)
• Research best practices for technical solutions of digital distribution of live content
• Assist with network development for our At-Risk Youth & Education programs, as well as research potential partners and participants
• Work within a team-based environment to achieve agreed-upon goals and timelines
• Make connections within the community & neighbourhood
• Maintain community partnerships and company database management
• Assist with the development of new partnerships with local and professional organizations
• Assist with Special Event planning & implementation of technical elements
• Assist with reporting and budgeting in a live theatre production context
• Assist with operation of the production office
• Other administration duties as required.
Priority will be given to applicants who identify as members of equity deserving and marginalized communities
Ideal Candidate:
• Creative with a love and passion for the performing arts
• Potentially a recent grad, or work experience in the arts sector
• Have a commitment to the ideals of equity and inclusion
• Proven written and verbal communication skills
• A problem solver with keen organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize tasks
• Enjoys working in a team-based collaborative work environment
• Able to work independently managing projects
• Excellent computer skills and familiarity with Mac based software, and Google suite.
• Familiar with technical theatre or stage management
Marketing Associate
The Marketing Associate will gain valuable skills that are in high demand within the creative sector. Working closely with the Artistic Director and under the supervision of the Producer and General Manager, the Candidate will assist with content development and outreach to engage with general audiences and youth in our community. This position will require on-site work in our offices in Toronto.
From May 11th to Aug 28, the Candidate will also assist with the production and design of media and promotional material to support our upcoming season, including:
• assisting in overall promotion of the Theatre Gargantua brand
• assisting in the marketing for our fall session of the TD Emerging Artists Roundtable Program
• assisting in the marketing for the fall instalment of our Main Cycle work, ArtIface, a new work exploring artificial intelligence and its impacts on Canadian society
The Candidate will also participate in the ongoing work of supporting and promoting our Sidestream projects and education and outreach programs. The Marketing Assistant will follow a work plan that covers tasks and responsibilities such as:
• Assist with researching and developing new community relations for our youth programming.
• Assist with communications to schools and teachers, and the development of educational material
• Assist with providing user support, responding to inquiries, creating/administering social media groups, etc.
• Assist with creating content, planning, and scheduling of social media posts across various platforms
• Assist in creation and/or editing of media/video elements for new productions
• Assist with audience development and maintenance of current audience base through the company CRM systems
• Assist with maintenance and updates to the company website through WordPress
• Maintain community partnerships and company database management
• Assist with developing new content (copy, images, video), including research, writing, copyediting, fact-checking, and proofreading
• Assist with tracking, analyzing, and providing regular reports on site usage and online presence (links, media coverage, social media, etc.)
• Assist with the publicity management for upcoming Theatre Gargantua works
• Assist with recruiting and managing volunteers
• Prepare social media engagement critical pathways for the remainder of 2025 Gargantua programming
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Production Assistant
The Production Assistant will gain a wide variety of job skills that are in high demand in the creative sector. This position will require on-site work in our offices in Toronto.
From May 11 to Aug 28, the candidate will work closely with the Artistic Director, Associate Producer, and General Manager and will:
• assist with all production elements in the preparations necessary building to our fall rehearsal schedule and mid-cycle performance of the first phase of ArtIface.
• Assist with organization, digitization, and cataloguing of show inventory and archives from past productions
Overall, the candidate will assist with tasks directly related to the production elements of a professional theatre company, including:
• Assist across all areas of producing live theatre (e.g. event organization, communications with artists and the production team, including designers and Production Manager and Stage manager)
• Research best practices for technical solutions of digital distribution of live content
