Media Release: OTF Grant Gives Theatre new Possibilities

Media Release | Dec 3, 2018

TORONTO– On Friday November 16, Theatre Gargantua welcomed the public to a pre-show ceremony to announce an Ontario Trillium Foundation Capital Grant that is allowing the organization to update its decade-old audio and media equipment. Local MPP Marit Stiles was on hand to congratulate Theatre Gargantua and to see how this $37,200 Capital grant is already making an impact on the quality of work and public experience we create.

“This investment by the Ontario Trillium Foundation to update the theatre’s creative equipment is great news for performance made in Ontario and for many in our community,” said Marit Stiles, MPP for Davenport. “Our community will continue to be inspired by the multi-disciplinary work of Theatre Gargantua.”

The equipment being updated includes projectors and audio equipment that meet the needs of contemporary performance. The impact of the new equipment was experienced by community members who stayed after the ceremony for a performance of The Wager.

“Audiences really responded to the sound scape and music in The Wager,” says Michael Spence, performer and Associate Artistic Director of Theatre Gargantua. “That was made possible by exploring the creative possibilities of our new audio equipment.”

Theatre Gargantua is committed to ensuring that this investment benefits the wider community and will be launching a Digital Lending Library to allow other professional not-for-profit performing arts groups access to these creative tools.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Government of Ontario, and of Canada’s leading granting foundations. OFT awarded more than $120 million to some 700 projects last year to build healthy and vibrant communities in Ontario.
